Keeping Safe Online

There are many resources available to help parents, and children keep themselves safe online.

The NSPCC have a quiz about Online safety that is well worth doing as a family. Their website has wealth of information to help parents support children at different ages with their use of technology, including a tool to help answer the question—is my child ready for their first mobile phone?

Internet Matters have step-by-step instructions on how to enable privacy / security settings on X, Tik Tok, Snapchat and many others apps and online games.  For example here is a poster highlighting issues on Roblox and here is Internet Matters guidance on how to address them.

On top of that they have a Digital Family Agreement that is designed to help your family agree on ground rules for use of devices in and out of the home. If you need personalised advice, they are there to help you.

Should you have any concerns about content you or your family have seen online the National Crime Agency CEOPS unit has a reporting tool online, accessing Child Protection Advisors.

They also have a range of information about keeping yourself or a child you know safer from online child sexual abuse, including new guidance on financially motivated sexual exploitation.

Children should also be assured that Childline is there for them 24/7 on 0800 1111.
